The Ha’penny Bridge, Dublin’s first dedicated pedestrian bridge opens.

The idea of a bridge, at this location, is first mooted.

The East-Link Bridge opens, Dublin’s last Liffey bridge before the Millennium Bridge.

As part of the regeneration of Temple Bar, a Liffey pedestrian bridge, the Wibbly, Wobbly Bridge, is proposed for the area, but is refused planning permission.

Details of the design competition for a Millennium Bridge announced in November.

In June, Howley Harrington Architects, in association with Price & Myers, Consulting Engineers are declared winners of the design competition.

The bridge structure is lifted onto the abutments on the 7th of November.

On December 20th, the Millennium Bridge, Dublin’s second only pedestrian bridge, is opened.
